Reeling from the recent break up, Joel was having a hard time coming to terms with his new life as a single father. With his life turned upside down after his son’s mother, Madeleine asked him to move out, Joel was in danger of allowing the heartbreak and confusion take control. He knew he wanted to be the best father he could be to their son, Lukas, but didn’t know if that meant letting go of the love of his life, or fighting to win her back so they could be a family again.
In order to regain control and decide how he wanted to move forward, Joel decides to take a drive to reconnect with who he was before he’d ever met Madeleine only to find himself on a journey of self-discovery that leads him to find the answers within himself. Joel leaves the Seattle suburbs for the solitude of the Cascade Mountains where he comes face to face with the past and is pushed to make the ultimate decision that will affect everyone involved, most importantly, his son.

It's also about attempting to find peace in his new life. It shows a tremendous amount of insight and maturity.I gave it five stars. I only wish I could have read it when I became a single parent. It tugged my heartstrings.

Thoughtful, descriptive, and very well written. Tears at your heartstrings in many different ways leaving you wanting more. I look forward to The Pepper House!
I truly enjoyed the descriptive settings of the story, the two trees, the rock and especially the Pepper House. The photography greatly enhanced the writers endeavors. More photos (great stuff, but I want a book of this stuff), subject matter history and characterization. A good proof reader would be a plus.
I cannot express how deeply this story has affected me. Joel has touched upon subjects I have dealt with and has bared his raw soul for us to gaze upon. It was like sitting as a fly on the wall with Morgan Freeman narrating. It is a beautiful story. Bawling my eyes out. You just aren't fair Joel. Anxioisly awaiting your next story.
