Reincarnation sucks! Unless it comes with a cute guy. That’s what sixteen year-old Layla Bradford discovers when she moves to Sky Cove, Maine, a small-town she thought was ordinary, but turns out to be an episode of “Cold Case” on steroids. Layla doesn’t want to fit in; she wants to blend in and stay out of the spotlight. But the spotlight is where she winds up when she catches the eye of school cross-country star and all-around-nice-guy Lucas Ellis. She quickly learns there’s more at stake than high school reputations when she and Lucas discover they are the reincarnations of a young married couple from the mid-1800s who suffered a horrible tragedy at the hands of a madman who was never brought to justice. After a series of frightening visions show Layla and Lucas glimpses of their past-lives, they realize that the villain of their previous existence has also been reincarnated, in the form of a fellow high school student who targets them with teenage pranks that soon turn dangerous. As they grow closer, will Layla and Lucas be able to uncover the truth in time to stop the same tragedy from unfolding once again?

I think I should start by saying that the plot for this book was really good and it was the book description that drew me in. I found myself looking forward to the bits about reincarnation and the dreams of the past.

The author was exceptional at capturing the intense feelings and emotions of teenagers and that really shone through in her writing. I could easily connect with Layla and Lucas and wanted to see them succeed in their goals. I’m also a big sucker for a gentlemanly and chivalrous male character and Lucas definitely ticked all those boxes and more! I don’t know how Layla kept herself from falling for him for as long as she did!

However, the book has an overall feel of being “unpolished”. There are small spelling errors throughout and some sentences are stilted and difficult to read. In my opinion, it could have done with another read through by an editor to give the book a more professional feel and a better reading experience for those who go on the journey with Layla and Lucas.

Overall, the story was definitely worth the read and I enjoyed the ride. The reincarnation and dream parts were fascinating and I looked forward to every one of them and could feel the emotions that washed through the protagonists after each one. The tragedy from their past was truly awful and I felt sorry for the characters and what their past selves had gone through.

Once Again Amy Durham 9780985070618 Books Reviews

I liked this book it was sweet story. I realy like how it brought out concern that Layla had about how much of the emotions that she and luke had were what they felt them selves and how much they were a result of the feelings that their past selves had for each other. I did find that Layla and Luke were unusually mature in how they handled the situation for teenagers Luke exspecialy seemed too perfect. But. This is only a minor criticism. Overall I enjoyed the book and found it very sweet and clean I would recomened this to any teenager of my acquaintance.
This was a story of reincarnation and modern young love. Even though it was a story based on young people, it was still good for all ages. The author did a good job of laying out the details and helping the reader to see the similarities of the characters and the people they were in the past. I picked it because it does talk of the paranormal and reincarnation. If a person is interested in the paranormal or the "unexplained", this story would be a good one to try.
I loved this book and found it to be hard to put down at times. I agree with a couple of the other reviewers that compare it to the Twilight series, in the fact that it is written in the first person with a degree of supernatural. Yet, please don't make the mistake of assuming that it will be a copy-cat version. Mrs. Durham's characters are strong and stand very well on their own. Since this is a book in the category of "young adult fiction," I was very pleased and appreciative of the clean nature of the book. The characters are very much attracted to each other, however, the decisions that they make would not leave a mother too ashamed to pass this title on to her teenage daughter. Kudos to Amy Durham on the first of what will surely be a great series of books.
Fantastic story about afterlife and reincarnation. Yes, you have to be a person who likes that kind of a story, to which I do. It was filled with excitement, and highly entertaining. The book did leave me with some questions, but not to give any spoiler away, I thought the way it ended was simply emotional and righteous. I wish the author would write a second book about it since the main character had been adopted, and she finds her real mother, but this was never concluded the way I wished it had been.
I enjoyed this story it has given me a glimpse at other reincranation novels as my own, The Twesome Loop is very different. Three quarters through the book there was a change of name to one of the main characers though (not consistent) which did jar a bit. Luke became Lucas. I think another full edit to correct this and a few other editing errors would make the story flow better.
However, I liked the characters and the unique ways they found to solve the mystery.
Finished this book in a day. Very, very cool. The main characters, Layla and Luke are very likeable, smart and real. You kind of figure out the ending, and you know what? It's a nice feeling. Because these two just deserve that second at spending their lives together - they're whole lives this time. Ms. Durham has a great way with dialogue, and everyone comes off as believable. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the sequel. Kudos!
Okay, honestly, when I first started reading this book, I thought it was a knockoff of Twilight, sans the Vampires and Werewolves. Non-popular type girl moves to a new town and is instantly smitten with a hot guy. The preternatural connection between them is undeniable and then the inexplicable things start happening. And there's lots and lots of angst. Sound familiar?

Then throw in elements of Dead Again, a 1991 reincarnation movie with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, and you have Once Again.

But I liked the book. I liked the lack of teen sex, even in an environment of such a strong sexual attraction. I liked the writing style. There was angst, yes, but I didn't roll my eyes throughout the book like I did with Twilight. Our heroine, Layla, was shy, but she wasn't whiny. She was smart with a good head on her shoulders. And she spoke with an air of maturity and inner strength. And I hope teen boys (and grown men) read this book and learn from Luke - he knows how to treat a lady!

Loved, loved, loved the genealogy elements!

My only problem with the book was how everything was a little too neat. The "bad guy" was obvious, the ending predictable.

I can't help but to point out the parallels between this book at Twilight as they're so glaringly obvious to me. Twilight fans will like this book, and some of us like it even better.
